The Flow of Energy
As you continue in the martial arts,
the energy that flows through and around your body increases dramatically,
it can even cause you physical pain.
In the following pages I will show you some exercises that will help you understand the flow,
when done daily will increase your ability to hold and use energy.
Whether you do martial arts or not is irrelevant,
these exercises will improve your health, and enhance your daily life.
If you are a therapist it will make a notable difference to your treatments.
( Starting the exercises )
When you have a calm mind and body you are more likely to succeed in all aspects of life,
healing and martial arts even more so,
when these exercises are done,it is very important that you check your body for any tension,
strive for total relaxation,
place your tongue lightly behind your top teeth,
as you breath in hold the breath for two or three heart beats,
as you breath out hold the breath out for two or three heart beats,
( do not strain the breath )
feel the calmness at the top and bottom of the breath.
The breath
less than 20% of your energy comes from food,
more than 80% comes from the breath,
but most breathing is involuntary spasms,
because we have spent our whole life doing it we think there's nothing to learn,
everyone should take a few minutes
at least twice a day exploring the breath,
as you read this page do some deep breathing from your centre,
don't strain and stay relaxed, you will feel a difference,
when you drive your car, place a post it note on the steering wheel with breath written on it,
when you walk breath in for five steps, then breath out for five steps,
get into a rhythm, it may be three steps, whatever is comfortable for you
( After two weeks )
When you have done these daily exercises for a few weeks,
you can take your awareness away from the breath,
and feel the subtle energy flow in and round your body,
check how you are standing,
is there tension anywhere?
is your back straight?
if you do a martial art open the feet wider to horse riding stance,
making sure that the knees are still behind the toes,
( Do not strain relaxation is the key )
( There's always a way )
If you are injured or can not stand,
these exercises can be done in a seated position,
in extreme circumstances when lying down,
and if you can only manage one of the exercises, one is better than none,
( should be done standing when possible )
The internal clock
Basically, energy flows through every part of your body in a 24 hour loop,
knowing where the energy is at a set time helps you when you are giving someone a treatment,
for example the energy is strongest in the heart from 11 am until 1 pm
this is the best time to work in that area,
we will start there,
11 am until 1pm - Heart,
1 pm until 3pm - Small Intestine,
3 pm until 5 pm - Urinary Bladder,
5 pm until 7 pm - Kidney,
7 pm until 9 pm - Pericardium,
9 pm until 11 pm - Sanjiao Endocrine,
11 pm until 1 am - Gall Bladder,
1 am until 3 am - Liver,
3 am until 5 am - Lungs,
5 am until 7 am - Large intestine,
7 am until 9 am - Stomach,
9 am until 11 am - Spleen,
If you do absent healing,
sending at the appropriate times enhances the healing.
I have been involved in martial arts
on and of for over 42 years,
I started teaching alternative
